Good skin care does not have to be expensive.
There is an addiction I have not mentioned over here, and that is to skin care. I love skin care, more than I love make up. I have no problem spending money on skin care just because it has to go on your face! And I always had this notion in my head, that the more you spend, the better the product. How wrong was I! I have bough lotions and potions for eye watering amounts and they do not do what they said they would, or do anything at all to be quite frank. But of course there are exceptions, and sometimes you do not want to spent all of your shoe fund on some lotions and potions.
I have found some of my holy grail products at Boots (drugstore), and these products won’t break the bank, and plus there are always some offers going on in store. These products are the best, they do what you need them to do.
Let me describe my skin, so that you can get an understanding of the type of products I use. I have quite dry/dehydrated skin which is made worse in the colder months and in the warmer months my skin is still dehydrated, but gets a little oily in the t-zone. I also have very reactive and sensitive skin, therefore I cannot use anything to fragranced and smelly. I get the occasional spot around that hormonal time of the month, but otherwise I do not get break outs of spots. Therefore, what I look for in my skin care products is something hydrating, that packs a punch and keeps my skin moisturised and protected through out the day. What I look for a in a toner , is something that does not strip the moisture from my face too much.
Now on to the goodies. I have a few favourite brands at the drugstore, Avene, La Roche Posey, Embroylisse. These are some of my holy grail brands, they are gentle on your skin, effective and they do no break the bank.
Let’s start with Avene Skin care, I was introduced to this brand a few years ago after having a bad reaction from another product and I had to use products from this brand to calm my skin, and it did! I use some products on a day to day basis even now because the products are nice and simple, and they do what they need to do. Here are my 5 favourite products from the brand:
Then there is the Cicafate, which is a product I use when my face is in some need of some major TLC. It is a restorative skin cream and therefore it is a lot thicker in consistency, so if you have very oil skin it might not be the best for you, but for all you dehydrated and sometime damages skin peeps, this one is for you. Especially after sitting around in the sun, or if your skin have been irritated by something and cracked or anything along those lines.
From the range the Hydrance serum is a great everyday serum that can be worn during the day because it is light enough to go under tour make up whilst injecting a very much needed boost of moisture and hydration to your skin to protect it all day.
Exfoliators are a very scary idea to me, to rub something so corse and harsh on my very sensitive skin never sounded appealing, but sometimes you need to exfoliate and this is the ONLY product I use to do that. It is really gentle on your skin whilst gently exfoliating your skin to get rid of the grime and the dead skin off your face.
My last favourite product from the brand is, the Hydration mask. I love to buy masks and try them on, but I am always a little hesitate to buy and try loads because my skin, is a moany cow and does not like everything. This mask is really hydrating and it does not have any crazy smells, and a little goes along way with this mask. And trust me, you need this one.
Now on to another moisturiser, can you tell I my obsession with keeping my face moisturised? To be fair with the weather changing I think we all need to give our skin some loving care with the change in weather and environments. Embroyolisse, Lait Creme Concentre, do not let the name scare you off. It is a nice light cream that is a must have in the beauty industry and a secret amongst a lot of the make up artists. It is enriched with fatty acids and vitamins, and it helps balance your skin with any issues of dryness and irritation. Its light texture makes it a perfect moisturiser and primer to wear under your make up. Go, on give it ago especially now that it is readily available in the UK.
Then there is La Roche-Posay, were a brand that was kind of hard to get a hold of, but now thanks to Boots, there are readily available in the UK. Here are my favourite products from them.
They have a wonderful matte moisturiser called Effaclar Matt, which is a great moisturiser for the warmer months when your face gets a little oily in the summer months. It does not make your face to squeaky clean and dry looking, it still moisturiser your face whilst keeping it matte and shine free. Then there is Effaclar Duo, which is a great serum style product to use when your skin is being, lets say difficult and sprouting new friends all over your face. It contains hydoxyl and salicylic acid which de-clogs pores and noticeably gets rid of spot – therefore making this product a miracle worker.
Then there is the Serozinc, which was a blogger favourite a few years back and I can see why. I use this almost as a toner when my skin is being troublesome. I spray is on to a cotton pad and then swipe it along my face and it is great to use together with the Effaclar Duo when your skin is being spotty and a hot mess. And of course you can use it as a spray all over your face, and it is non-greasy and absorbs really quickly into your skin.
The SPF that they have is perfect for people with sensitive skin, it is not very fragranced and it does the job without irritating my skin. The other thing I love about the brand is that they have an SPF in a spray too so that you can top up your SPF when you are out and about.
Here are my holy grails from the drugstore, what are your favourite skin care products from he drug store?
